Work on airport access road nears midpoint

Work continued on the Kahului Airport access road last week. Construction on the Puunene Avenue to Hana Highway side of the project is nearing 50 percent completion, according to Derek Inoshita of the state Department of Transportation. Current work involves installing utilities, retaining walls and drainage systems. Traffic signals at the Hana Highway intersection will be activated at the beginning of next year, about when the phase is expected to be completed in February. The first segment of the Hana Highway-Kahului Airport phase has begun with work on 1,000 feet of the new road. Bids currently are open on that section of the roadway.
