8 rescued after sinking off Molokai

HONOLULU (AP) – Eight people were plucked from the water off Molokai after the boat they were in sank.

The Coast Guard said the group sent a distress signal about 12 miles west of Molokai on Sunday.

The boat’s emergency radio beacon was activated, and rescuers located the 21-foot boat.

The eight people were able to tie three kayaks together and cling to them after the boat sank. They were hoisted from the water onto a helicopter and brought safely to shore.
