Akaku to broadcast coverage of election

Akaku: Maui Community Television will televise live primary election results from 6 to 10 p.m.

Saturday from its studios in Kahului, the nonprofit cable TV station announced.

The coverage will be on cable Channels 53, 54 and 55, simulcast on KAKU FM 88.5 and streamed on www.akaku.org.

At its Kahului studios at 333 Dairy Road, Akaku will provide food, large-screen monitors and a sound system for members of the public to view the live telecast.

Program hosts will be Kathy Collins of Manao Radio and Jeff King of Maui TV News. Election analysis will be offered by Dick Mayer of the Kula Community Association and Mahina Martin, director of government and community relations with Maui Electric Co. Akaku’s Chivo Ching-Johnson and Shaggy Jenkins will interview candidates and community members from various locations. Interns Tabitha Blessum and Kaimana Idica will provide roving, live video feeds from the election night party outside of the Akaku studios.
