Firefighters show readiness to respond

First Photo: Maui Fire Department firefighter Jerime Story of Engine 10 douses a mock blaze during Saturday morning’s Fire Safety and Service emonstration at Keopuolani Park in Kahului. Fire Inspector and event emcee Kapono Stupplebeen said that the event, held on the heels of Fire Prevention Week, was a way to educate parents and children about fire safety and prevention as well as help them to rest a little bit easier. “We want to make them feel assured that we’re always ready to respond,” Stupplebeen said.

Second Photo: Chayven Rosetes, 7, raises his hand signaling he’s ready to fight a fire after being helped into a turnout suit by MFD Lt. Scott English.

* This article contains a correction from the original. A photo caption published on Page A1 on Monday misidentified Chayven Rosetes, 7, of Wailuku. He was pictured raising his hand to signal he was ready to start a fire in a demonstration Saturday at Keopuolani Park with Maui Fire Department Lt. Scott English.
