National day of prayer

Joy Werner, 17, of Wailuku prays alongside her family and others Thursday afternoon during the National Day of Prayer at the State Building courtyard in Wailuku. The annual observance is held on the first Thursday of May and invites people of all faiths to pray for America, according to the National Day of Prayer Task Force. This year’s theme was “Wake Up America,” which emphasizes the “need for individuals, corporately and individually, to return to the God of our Fathers in reverence for His Holy Name,” Maui organizers said.
