Moniz to speak at Wednesday meeting

Maui County Council candidate Stacey Moniz will be speaking to the West Maui Taxpayers Association at a pancake breakfast at Java Jazz at the Honokowai Marketplace from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Moniz is running for the Upcountry residency council seat.

The event is free for association members and $7 for nonmembers. The cost includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links, bacon, coffee, tea and juice.

Tavares to appear at Tegarden event

Former Mayor Charmaine Tavares will be appearing at state House candidate Deidre Tegarden’s talk-story session on development from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the candidate’s headquarters in Kihei.

Tavares said in a news release that she will be using her experience as mayor and as the chairwoman of the council’s planning committee to explain the state and county jurisdictions over land-use planning.

Tegarden’s headquarters is located at Azeka Makai above Flowers By Cora. Tegarden’s weekly talk story is open to the public; refreshments are served.

She is running in the Democratic primary for the 11th House seat that encompasses South Maui. Her opponent is incumbent Kaniela Ing.
