Changes proposed for ‘Ahihi-Kina‘u
Hearing to be held Nov. 10 in Kihei
Alcohol and drug use would be prohibited in natural reserve areas statewide and parking fees would be established in the ‘Ahihi-Kina’u Natural Area Reserve under rule changes proposed by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
A hearing on the proposed changes is set for 6 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Kihei Community Center.
Other proposed rule amendments include permit provisions and establish a system to remove vehicles from reserve areas.
The proposed $5-per-vehicle parking fees at ‘Ahihi-Kina’u’s Kanahena lot would provide a self-sustaining funding source, according to an announcement. Hawaii residents would not be charged.
The parking area would be closed daily from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
