Kihei volunteers Jefferson Stillwell (first photo) and Bob Richardson spent about two weeks repairing, cleaning and repainting the Kalama Park whale, about six years ago. South Maui parks supervisor Mary Kielty asked the duo if they could once again repair the whale. They got the official go-ahead Oct. 19 and repaired the damaged stucco and repainted the whale. The work was completed Friday. Bob and Lis Richardson donated the materials. Members of the Kalama Park Action Team have been helping to maintain the whale for the last decade. The group put in the fencing, ground glass cover and native plants.
