Man seen driving stolen car arrested
A 33-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday after he was seen driving a stolen car in Kihei, police said.
Desmond Pulgados was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. His bail was set at $5,000.
A police officer stopped the black 2012 Honda Accord at 12:49 a.m. as it turned from Halekuai Street onto South Kihei Road, said Lt. Derrick Lopez, head of the Property Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division. The driver didn’t stop immediately but continued southbound before pulling into an address in the 1500 block of South Kihei Road, where the driver ran into the residence, he said.
A woman in the car was detained and the officer determined the car had been reported stolen Oct. 29 from the parking lot of the Maui Beach Hotel in Kahului, Lopez said.
Pulgados was found in the residence and arrested, he said.
Pulgados also was arrested on eight warrants with bail totaling $6,500.
“It was great work by our patrol officers to apprehend the driver and recover the stolen vehicle,” Lopez said. “Officers continue to be proactive within our communities.”
