Free child car seat inspections planned

Free child car seat or booster seat inspections will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Maui Marketplace near Pier 1 on Dairy Road in Kahului.

People interested in having child car seats checked to see whether they’re properly installed should show up with the child, seat and car, as well as instruction manuals for the car seat and vehicle. An inspection takes a minimum of 30 minutes for each seat.

The inspections are done on a first-come, first-served basis. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to instruct parents and caregivers on correct selection, installation and use of car seats.

Under state law, car seats are required for children under age 4. Children from ages 4 to 7 are required to be restrained in either car seats or booster seats while riding in vehicles.

Information about upcoming child car seat inspections is available on at the Facebook page of Maui County Child Passenger Safety at
