Hawaii Grower Products is acquired by Idaho firm

The J.R. Simplot Co. has acquired the assets of Hawaii Grower Products in Kahului for an undisclosed amount.

Former owner Ken Findeisen will remain at the store at 400 Lehuakona St. and will be a “key component of the management and sales staff to help provide continuity for customers and employees,” according to Josh Jordan of Simplot.

The change of ownership happened Jan. 31. The business name will change to “Simplot.”

“We continue to look for opportunities to expand our geographic reach and expansion to Hawaii fits the plan,” said Jeff Roesler, vice president of Simplot’s Specialty Business Units.

The company also purchased locations at Kapolei on Oahu and Kailua-Kona on the Big Island.

“The stores will provide a full complement of crop protection products, including seed, specialty turf and horticulture products and related products and services,” Jordan said. “The stores will provide a full-service offering to golf courses, landscape companies, municipalities and nurseries.”

The company is headquartered in Boise, Idaho. It has an integrated portfolio that includes phosphate mining, food processing, food brands and other agricultural enterprises.
