Santana returns to the MACC on May 2
The Maui News – Carlos Santana and his band Santana will be returning to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center for a performance on May 2.
Santana, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, will bring his Transmogrify Tour to the A&B Amphitheater/Yokouchi Pavilion and perform songs from his 40-year career. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. with gates opening at 5 p.m.
Santana was one of the first big acts at the MACC, which opened in 1994.
He has sold more than 100 million records in his four decades of performing and collected 10 Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards, a news release from the MACC said. Santana grabbed a record-tying nine Grammys for a single project, “Supernatural,” in 1999.
In 1998, Santana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received a Kennedy Center Honors award in 2013.
With the 2014 release of “Corazon,” Santana became one of only two music acts in Billboard history to score at least one Top Ten album for six consecutive decades beginning in the 1960s. And the hits continue with “Santana IV,” which was released in April and debuted at No. 5 on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart.
Santana is currently headlining at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday for MACC members and at 10 a.m. March 11 for the general public.
