Festival celebrates kites

Wo Hing Museum Cultural Director Busaba Yip gives Mick Degraeve of Traverse City, Mich., a brief history of Chinese kite-making Friday on the opening day of the Lahaina temple’s Chinese Kite Festival & Kite Flying Day. The event continues from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today with kite-making and kite-flying activities on the museum grounds. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lahaina Recreation Center Football Field, there will be a Kite Flying Air Show with kite masters George Peters and Robert Loera. The Wo Hing Museum (right) is decked out in kites for the weekend festival.
