Free comic books on Saturday

Library cardholders may receive a free comic book at the Lahaina, Kahului, Kihei and Makawao public libraries Saturday as part of the Hawaii State Public Library System’s 16th annual Free Comic Book Day.

Comic books also will be given away on Lanai at Saturday Market in Dole Park from 8 to 10 a.m.

Library hours are 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Lahaina, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kahului, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kihei and 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Makawao.

Titles include “Guardians of the Galaxy #1,” “DC Super Hero Girls,” “Doctor Who,” “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess/Ocarina of Time,” “TokyoPop Disney Descendants” and others.

“Comic books inspire us with not only amazing characters and stories but art that ignites our imagination,” said state Librarian Stacey Aldrich.

Those who don’t have a library card may apply for one at the library.

Comic Book Day on the first Saturday in May is sponsored by the Friends of the Library of Hawaii, Gecko Books & Comics and Collector Maniacs.
