Visitor found unresponsive in Honolua Bay
A 19-year-old California woman was pulled unresponsive from Honolua Bay on Thursday afternoon and medevaced to Maui Memorial Medical Center, a fire official said.
The woman was at the beach with family and went snorkeling, Fire Services Chief Edward Taomoto said. She was found floating and unresponsive in the ocean and was brought to shore by bystanders.
No one knows what happened to the woman, he said.
Napili firefighters responded to the 12:21 p.m. call and were on the scene at 12:29 p.m. They found bystanders performing CPR, Taomoto said.
Firefighters took over CPR until paramedics arrived. They were able to get a pulse back before she was medevaced to the hospital, he said.
