Dustman named new Montessori school head

Eric L. Dustman has been named the new head of school at Montessori School of Maui in Makawao, the school announced Monday.
He replaces the retiring Rene Anderson-Vorfeld, who served as head of school since 2012. She is returning to Mainland after living on Maui for about two decades, a school official said.
Dustman began working with Anderson-Vorfeld in mid-July prior to her departure.
“I have great confidence in Eric and his leadership abilities,” said Anderson-Vorfeld. “Along with the passionate team that has been here for such a long time, I only see a bright future continuing for this amazing community.”
Dustman comes to the Makawao private school, with programs for youths 18 months to 8th-grade, from Qingdao Amerasia International School in China, where he served as principal of the toddler-to-12th grade international program. Prior to moving to China, he was head of school at the New School Montessori in Cincinnati.
A credentialed Montessori educator, Dustman said it was time for him and his family to re-establish roots in the U.S. after two years in China. He made the move to Maui with his wife, Renee, and their three children, Lucy, Amelia and Witt.
He was selected after a six-month nationwide search by the board of trustees of the school, which opened in 1978.
