Filipino chamber to discuss housing

“The Housing Crisis Impact on Working Families” will be the topic for discussion during a Maui Filipino Chamber of Commerce business mixer at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tante’s Island Cuisine, according to an announcement.

Former Maui County Council Member Vince Bagoyo Jr. will be the guest speaker. He is president and owner of V. Bagoyo Development Group, and he served as vice president of Castle & Cooke on Lanai from 1993 to 2003.

In that capacity, he directed the strategic planning of Lanai’s commercial and residential development, transitioning the island from a pineapple plantation to a vacation destination resort.

Bagoyo served as president of the Maui Filipino Chamber in 1992 when he helped with the planning and negotiations with Alexander & Baldwin for the land to build the Binhi At Ani Filipino Community Center in Kahului.

The event is open to chamber members and the general public for $20 per person. Hors d’oeuvres will be served.

The restaurant is in the Maui Seaside Hotel at 100 W. Kaahumanu Ave. in Kahului.
