Motorcyclist dies after losing control of bike
A motorcyclist died Friday afternoon in Kahului when he lost control of his white 2003 Kawasaki, fell onto West Kamehameha Avenue and slid into a Honda Civic driving in the opposite direction, police reported.
Taylor Siverly Guido, 27, of Kahului was pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation showed he was not wearing a helmet.
Shortly before 4:45 p.m. Friday, Guido rode north on West Kamehameha Avenue, south of Alehela Street, when he lost control and slammed into a four-door 2004 Honda Civic traveling south on West Kamehameha and turning left onto Alehela, police said.
The 45-year-old Kahului man driving the Civic was uninjured. He was wearing a seat belt, police said.
The crash marks the seventh traffic fatality in Maui County this year. At the same time last year, there were 11 fatalities, police said.
