3rd man charged in assault at Hookipa Beach Park
A third man was arrested Thursday in connection with a beating at Hookipa Beach Park last month that critically injured another man.
Jeffrey Aweau, 51, of Pukalani is charged with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault. His bail was set at $500,000.
Police said Aweau and two other men had been with the victim at the beach in Paia on Aug. 24 when they argued and got into a fight. The victim fell to the ground and was beaten, suffering catastrophic injuries, police said.
Randal Valoroso, 53, was arrested Wednesday on a Maui County grand jury warrant charging him with attempted murder, first-degree assault and intimidating a witness. His bail was set at $500,000.
Valoroso’s brother, Chad Valoroso, 52, was arrested Aug. 24 and was charged with first-degree assault. He was released after posting bail, according to police records.
During his arraignment Friday in 2nd Circuit Court, Aweau pleaded not guilty to the charges. A bail hearing for him was set for Tuesday.
