Police seek help to find men from threatening incident
Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two men involved in threatening others Saturday morning at Minit Stop in Makawao.
The confrontation occurred at about 6:35 a.m., with the driver of a red Nissan Frontier pickup truck threatening victims with a black folding knife, police said.
Earlier Saturday, at about 5:45 a.m., two men in the truck had approached the victims on Piilani Highway in the Kanaio area and questioned them about the theft of a cooler and beer, according to police.
Then the men in the truck drove toward Makawao, motioning for the victims to follow. At the Minit Stop, the driver got out of the truck and threatened the victims with the knife, police said.
The victims got back into their vehicle and left.
The man with the knife is described as Hispanic, 40 to 50 years old, 5-foot-10 to 6 feet tall and weighing 180 to 190 pounds. He had shoulder-length black hair and was wearing a black shirt and jeans with a camouflage baseball hat.
Anyone who can identify the truck or its occupants is asked to call Detective Dennis Clifton at 244-6433.
Anonymous calls can be made to Maui Crime Stoppers at 242-6966. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards of up to $1,000 leading to the arrest or indictment of people responsible for felony crimes.
