MHS marching band tunes up for competition

Maui High School’s marching band performs at halftime during Saturday’s Maui Interscholastic League football game against crosstown rival Baldwin High at War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku. Principal Jamie Yap said the band did about three-quarters of the performance it is working on for the Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis this November. “Huaka’i” is the title of the production the band will present in Lucas Oil Stadium during the competition that runs Nov. 9 to 11. The title is Hawaiian for journey. Along with working on the production, band members are raising funds for the trip to compete against more than 100 bands from around the country, including Mililani High School from Oahu.
