Lyons II Palaka Awards during a celebration presented Wednesday afternoon by the Rotary Club of Kahului and Alexander & Baldwin at the King Kamehameha Golf Club. The two men were honored for their philanthropy and volunteerism. The Palaka Award is named in memory of longtime community leader and volunteer Michael “Mike” Lyons and his trademark palaka shirts. Rice manages his family’s Kaonoulu Ranch and has been known for donating his time, talent and treasure to organizations such as the Hawaii Community Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters Maui and 4-H.
