Relatives sought for unclaimed bodies
The Maui Police Department is seeking help in contacting family members of five unclaimed bodies at its forensic facility.
The bodies include one of an unidentified person in an advanced stage of decomposition that was found April 23 about 2 miles above Kaiwahine Street in Kihei, police said.
The other unclaimed bodies are:
• Eric Wittmer, 58, who died June 12. He had light brown eyes, brown and gray facial hair and a scar on his right lower leg.
• Christopher Altman, 55, who died June 24. He was 6 feet tall and weighed 168 pounds with dark gray hair and facial hair. He had a tattoo of skull/wings and “AIRBORNE” on his left upper arm. His body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition.
• Roger Derka, 72, who died July 20. He was 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed 90 pounds with gray hair and facial hair. His body was found in an advanced stage of decomposition at a residence in Lahaina.
• Horst Rickenstof, 81, who died July 22. He was 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 133 pounds with brown and gray hair. His body was found at a residence in Kihei.
Anyone who has information on relatives of the unclaimed bodies is asked to call 463-3833.
If the bodies go unclaimed after a reasonable amount of time, they will be cremated, police said.
