‘Fans in the stands’

Maui High School students and supporters cheer a basket during Wednesday morning’s “Fans in the Stands” basketball game in the school gym. The game between Maui High’s two unified teams was a qualifier for the Holiday Classic State Games on Oahu in November. Setting an example of inclusion, Maui High is the first school in the state to form competitive teams with special needs and mainstream students playing together. The addition of packed stands, cheerleaders and certified referees gave the contest a true playoff like atmosphere. The Maui Sabers Blue Dragons (green) topped Maui Sabers Pride, 30-22.
