High-surf advisories issued

High-surf advisories are up for the south-facing shores of Maui County and east-facing shores of Maui and Molokai, the National Weather Service said.

The advisory for south-facing shores was extended until 6 p.m. today. Surf heights are expected to reach 5 to 8 feet today after hitting 7 to 10 feet Monday night.

The advisory for east-facing shores was continued until 6 p.m. Wednesday. Surf heights are expected to reach 7 to 10 feet.

Strong trade winds are forecast to produce rough and choppy seas and elevated surf in the county for the next several days. A high-surf advisory means that high surf will impact beaches and cause erosion and produce rip currents.
