The Maui Fair’s Joy Zone (first photo) is a blaze of colors, sights and sounds as day gives way to opening night. The fair will run from 5 p.m. to midnight today, 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday. Today and Saturday, admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 11 and free for children 4 and under. On Sunday, tickets cost $7 for adults, $3 for children ages 5 to 11 and free for children 4 and under.

Months of effort went in to building and decorating Hale Mahaolu’s float (second photo), which was one of the stars of Thursday’s parade. The colorful arch celebrates the nonprofit’s 50th anniversary.
