Tree frond causes Haiku power outage

About 570 Maui Electric Co. Haiku customers lost power Thursday morning when high winds caused a tree frond to make contact with overhead lines along Kalanikahua Road.

The outage occurred at 8:12 a.m., said MECO spokeswoman Shayna Decker. The majority of customers had power back by 8:50 a.m. with the last 20 customers restored at 9:50 a.m.
