Wind advisory in effect through today

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a wind advisory for the entire state through 10 p.m. today.

A high pressure building toward the islands is expected to bring locally strong trade winds through tonight, according to the weather service.

A wind advisory means that sustained winds of at least 30 mph, or gusts of at least 50 mph, are expected. Winds this strong can cause tree limbs to break, potentially leading to localized power outages. Driving may become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Motorists should use extra caution while driving, and participants in outdoor activities should be alert for flying debris.
