High-surf advisory in effect

A high-surf advisory has been posted for east-facing shores of Maui and Molokai through 6 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

A moderate north-northeast swell is expected to combine with choppy trade wind seas to produce surf of 6 to 9 feet through this afternoon.

Strong breaking waves and rip currents are expected.

The forecast for Maui for today through Wednesday is partly cloudy skies with scattered showers over windward and mountain areas in the morning with isolated showers in the afternoon. Leeward areas can expect mostly clear skies with isolated showers. High temperatures are expected to reach 82 to 87 degrees with overnight lows of 70 to 75 degrees. Easterly winds 15 to 20 mph are forecast.
