Calgary, Alberta, twins Marlow (right) and Waverly Schroeder, 11, weave through parents Brock and Meagan Schroeder while practicing their basketball skills Tuesday morning at Kalama Park in Kihei.

SECOND PHOTO: The girls play on three basketball teams back home, including a community team coached by their mom, who played the sport while attending college. The girls have been challenged by their parents to practice every day for a year. If they do, they’ll earn tickets to an NBA basketball game, hopefully to see the Toronto Raptors, they said. While it was overcast in Kihei on Tuesday, back home in Calgary there was a “snowfall warning” with 16 inches of snow expected. Instead of shooting layups and dribbling two balls at once at Kalama, Meagan said the girls would probably go down in the basement, working on their dribbling on the concrete floor. This is the family’s sixth straight winter visit to Maui. “We start counting the days in July,” Meagan Schroeder said.
