Help sought to find owner of red kayak
The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking help in identifying the owner of a red kayak found adrift Saturday a mile and a half south of Olowalu Beach. A crew aboard a 45-foot boat from Coast Guard Station Maui searched the area offshore while Maui firefighters conducted a search onshore, the Coast Guard reported. Mariners have been alerted to keep a sharp lookout for signs of anyone in distress.
The crew of the Lahaina Princess reported the discovery of the unmanned kayak at 7:47 a.m. Saturday. The red kayak was found partially submerged and has the word Tamarack 120 on the side, the Coast Guard said.
There were no reports of anyone missing in the area.
