Tickets available for New Year’s dinner
The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui’s quarterly meeting and annual “Oshogatsu — Japanese New Year’s Traditions” event will be held Dec. 29 at Wailuku Hongwanji social hall. Society members and the general public are invited.
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with mochi pounding and with a variety of self-service mochi tasting stations (azuki bean filling, fried with a shoyu sauce, powdered soybean flavoring, etc.). A special recipe, ozoni (traditional New Year’s soup), will also be served, along with a bento dinner.
Japanese games and the sharing of other traditions will round out the evening.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $10 for children under age 10.
A maximum of 100 tickets will be available for purchase at Credit Associates of Maui, 1817 Wells St. in Wailuku until Tuesday.
KKHS girls soccer team sets auction
King Kekaulike High School’s girls varsity soccer team will hold a silent auction fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Maui Mall.
