Kula man dies of injuries following dirt bike crash
A 52-year-old Kula man died Saturday from injuries sustained in a dirt bike crash Dec. 24 in Kula, Maui police spokesman Lt. Gregg Okamoto said Tuesday.
The man was identified as Graden Miguel.
At 12:22 p.m. on Dec. 24, a 2005 Honda multipurpose vehicle was traveling southbound on Lower Kula Road and making a left turn onto Pulehuiki Road when it crashed into Miguel, who was riding his dirt bike in the opposite direction down Lower Kula Road.
Miguel was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition and treated for his injuries. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that Miguel was transported to an Oahu hospital for treatment.
The operator of the Honda, a 52-year-old Kula man, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was released at the scene.
It was the 18th traffic fatality for Maui County in 2017, compared to 23 in 2016, Okamoto said.
