Police seek help in assault case

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two men involved in an early-morning assault Tuesday in a parking lot on Lalo Street in Kahului.

Police said two men with knives approached another man in the parking lot at about 1 a.m. The victim fought off his attackers, who then fled in a black Toyota pickup.

One man was described as possibly Caucasian, in his 30s, 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-11 and weighing 170 to 180 pounds with short brown hair and a muscular build.

The other man was described as being of “mixed” race, in his 30s, 6-foot-1 to 6-foot-3 and weighing 280 to 300 pounds with short black hair and tattoos.

The Toyota pickup was described as a Tacoma extended-cab model with a Monster energy drink logo sticker on the right cab window.

Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call Detective Dennis Clifton at 244-6433, police at 244-6400 or 911 in an emergency. Callers should refer to report 18-002374.
