Brush fire burns about 1 acre
A brush fire on the mauka side of Honoapiilani Highway at the Kuihelani Highway intersection Monday afternoon burned about 1 acre, Maui fire officials said.
Responding to a 2:44 p.m. call by passing motorists of smoke and flames, a Wailuku crew was on scene about 10 minutes later, said Fire Services Chief Ed Taomoto. The fire was about 200 yards on the west side of Honoapiilani Highway near the intersection and was about 50 by 50 feet.
The fire was contained at 3:30 p.m. and extinguished at 4:18 p.m.
The cause was undetermined. There were no injuries or damage, Taomoto said.
A tanker and engine from Kahului also helped fight the fire, he said.
