High surf forecast for eastern shores

A high-surf advisory has been issued for the east-facing shores of Maui and Molokai until 6 a.m. Monday, according to a notice from the Maui County Emergency Management Agency.

Driven by a strong northeast high-pressure weather system, surf was forecast to build to 6 to 9 feet Friday and remain through Monday, forecasters said.

Beachgoers should heed lifeguard warnings and expect strong breaking waves and currents that will make swimming difficult and dangerous.
