Repairs to limit visitor center hours

The Haleakala National Park Visitor Center at the 9,741-foot elevation will be open for the sunrise period but closed for the rest of the day for repairs, possibly through Friday, park officials said Wednesday.

The center will be open from sunrise until 8 a.m. while improvements and repairs are being made to the building’s two entrances. After 8 a.m., the building will close until the next day’s sunrise.

The restrooms, which are located in a separate building, will remain open.

Barring severe weather or other unforeseen work conditions, the work is expected to be completed by late Friday, park officials said.

The contractor is Stilten Ltd. Co. The $47,271 project is being funded by park entrance fees, park officials said.
