Always good to take a ‘Paws for Reading’

First photo: Kamehameha Schools Maui 3rd-grader Matilda Stone reads the book “Two Bobbies: A True Story of Hurricane Katrina, Friendship and Survival” by Kirby Larson and Mary Nethery to Labrador retriever Sadie from Assistance Dogs of Hawaii on Tuesday afternoon at Makawao Public Library. The “Paws for Reading” program pairs young readers with nonjudgmental, tail-wagging listeners to build confidence and strengthen literary skills. Matilda and Sadie were helping train Robyn DeSilva, who will be providing the program at the Makawao library with her family’s golden retriever, Jake.
