Landslide cuts off water in valley

A landslide in Honokohau Valley has cut off water to customers in the area until at least today, the county Department of Water Supply said Wednesday.

The landslide that most likely occurred Tuesday night damaged the 6-inch pipeline that provides water to the area, the water department said. Department officials did not know how many residents were affected, but there are 13 meters in the valley.

Customers began calling the department at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to report the lack of water. The break has been located in the remote valley, the department said.

Water service is expected to be restored at about lunchtime today, the department said. Until the line is repaired and the storage tank is filled, customers may fill containers at a water tanker located at the entrance to the valley on Honoapiilani Highway, the department said.
