Lifeguard ATV stolen at Fleming

A red all-terrain vehicle, “a vital tool for saving people’s lives,” was stolen from a storage building at D.T. Fleming Beach Park in Kapalua early Tuesday. The ATV is used by county lifeguards.

Police are seeking the public’s help in locating an all-terrain vehicle that was stolen in a break-in early Tuesday at a storage building at D.T. Fleming Beach Park in Kapalua.

The ATV was used by lifeguards at the beach to launch and recover their rescue watercraft from the ocean, as well as to respond to other emergencies along the stretch of sandy beach.

“The vehicle is a vital tool for saving people’s lives,” police said.

The ATV was described as a red 2017 Polaris Ranger 4×4 all-terrain vehicle. It has a yellow-and-red emblem on the hood with a lifeguard logo for the Maui County Department of Fire & Public Safety.

The theft occurred at about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
