Sharing Hawaiian music, culture and food

First photo: Members of kumu hula Hokulani Holt’s halau Pa’u O Hi’iaka perform during Saturday’s 27th annual Luau of Keawala’i Congregational Church in Makena. The theme for this year’s event was “E hele mai, e ‘ike! Come and see!” The event was a fundraiser for the church founded in 1832, but the Rev. Kealahou Alika said it was more about sharing music, culture and food. “It’s about preserving Hawaiian music and traditions,” he said. “That’s why we do it. If we make a little money, that’s OK. But the fundraising isn’t as important as sharing.”
