Suspect in assault sought by police

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a male involved in an assault on a tourist last month at Kihei Kalama Village.

The tourist sustained serious injuries after being punched several times and falling to the ground, police said. He was part of a group from the Mainland that was near the tattoo shop after leaving Lava Rock Bar and Grill at about 2 a.m. Feb. 4.

Police said the tourists were asking about any “after parties” and began arguing with a group of males before three of the tourists were assaulted. The altercations spilled into the parking and driveway area fronting Three’s Bar and Grill when the visitor was punched and fell, police said.

The assailant was described as possibly between 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10, weighing 190 to 240 pounds with very short hair. He was wearing dark-colored shorts and a light colored T-shirt.

The suspect left before police arrived by walking back into Kihei Kalama Village property.

Anyone who has information on the suspect is asked to call Maui Crime Stoppers at 242-6966 and refer to MPD report #18-005226. Calls can also be made to Detective Mark Hada at 875-5410.
