Shoreline cleanup at area reserve is a necessity

Turtle Island Restoration Network members Anita Wintner (from front, first photo), Miranda Camp, Bruce Weyerman and Alan Espiritu remove marine debris collected at ‘Ahihi Kina’u Natural Area Reserve on Wednesday. The debris was gathered just four days after a volunteer crew collected and removed 800 pounds of plastics, nets, ropes and other junk found washed ashore or floating in nearshore waters. State Department of Land and Natural Department forest and wildlife technician Joe Fell McDonald said volunteers are needed for the cleanups held every Saturday. Call 984-8100 to sign up.
