Junior Police Officers’ day of fun

Maui Police Department officers James Burkett (right, first photo) and Paul Pomainville display their remote control car driving skills to Junior Police Officers on Thursday in a race at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center during MPD’s annual JPO Awards Picnic. The fun event was a way of saying thanks to the students, mostly 5th-graders, who volunteered their time to help with traffic and safety around their schools. Students from seven schools, including Lanai and Molokai, were feted, with one student from each school receiving an award as Outstanding JPO of the Year. Dominos of Maui Lani donated 50 pizzas, while other Maui businesses also made donations to help buy prizes for the kids.
