WAILUKU — An Aug. 27 trial is set in 2nd Circuit Court for a man facing murder and other charges in a shooting in Kanaio.
During his arraignment Wednesday, Justin Namauu, 42, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, using a firearm in the commission of a felony, prohibited possession of a pistol, prohibited possession of ammunition and keeping a pistol in an improper place.
He is being held in lieu of $2 million bail at the Maui Community Correctional Center.
Police arrested Namauu after a woman reported he had shot 45-year-old Dennis Pacheco the morning of May 21 at her residence in Kanaio. The woman told police that Namauu had disposed of Pacheco’s body in an unknown location.
After arresting Namauu, police searched the remote area before Namauu on May 25 guided officers to a Kahikinui location where he reportedly had stashed Pacheco’s body.
Judge Richard Bissen is presiding over the case.
