Hotel comes down piece by piece

Workers gut the interior of the old Makena Beach & Golf Resort, formerly the Maui Prince Hotel, Wednesday afternoon to make way for its demolition. The seven-story, 310-room hotel opened in 1986 and will be replaced by low-rise, single-family and multifamily residential structures. A high-reach excavator will be used to take down the building’s walls, crunching them into pieces of concrete and scrap steel small enough to recycle. Demolition is scheduled to run through the end of the year.
