Jail guard threat charges dismissed

Charges have been dismissed against a man who had been accused of intimidating and threatening corrections officers at the Maui Community Correctional Center three years ago.

Christopher Grindling, 49, had the charges dismissed in two cases during a court hearing June 14, according to court records. He had asked to have the charges dismissed because more than six months had passed since the charges were filed in 2015.

Second Circuit Judge Joseph Cardoza granted the dismissals without prejudice, so the prosecution could again seek to have Grindling charged in the cases.

In the two cases, Grindling had pleaded not guilty to six counts of intimidating a correctional worker, two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening and two counts of harassment.
