A brown water advisory was issued Thursday for Honomanu Bay in East Maui due to heavy rains and stormwater runoff into the bay, the state Department of Health said.

The public was advised to stay out of flood and storm waters. The water may include contaminants from overflowing cesspools, sewers and manholes, including pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens and debris.

Not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff, but, if the water is brown stay out, the Health Department said.
