Lahaina’s Kawika Miranda gets to know a tabby kitten at the Maui Humane Society while looking to adopt during Saturday’s “Clear the Shelters” event in Puunene. “She’s adorable and very friendly,” he said. All adoption fees were waived Saturday as the society took part in the national event sponsored by the Savitt Family Foundation. Maui staffers said 40 people were lined up, waiting to enter when they opened Saturday and 32 animals were adopted within the first 90 minutes.
