7 rescued from Wailuku River waters
Firefighters rescued four adults and three children who were stranded by rising waters in Iao Valley State Park on Sunday afternoon, a fire official said.
Firefighters were called to the park at 4:15 p.m. and found the group stranded on a high spot in the middle of the Wailuku River by quickly rising waters, said Fire Services Officer Rylan Yatsushiro. A Kahului rescue crew aboard the Fire Department’s Air One helicopter was called to airlift the victims to a landing zone in the parking lot.
All were in good condition and refused medical attention, Yatsushiro said.
Two adults and the three children, ages 3, 5 and 11, were Maui residents and two adults were visitors, he said.
